Practice Assignments

A practice assignment is the short list of practice work you set from the lesson page, to do until the next lesson. Repertoire is the longer list of pieces a student is learning. For what families see, read Family Practice Tracking.

Owners, admins, and teachers set practice. Staff cannot.

Where assignments live

The practice widget is part of the lesson page of each scheduled lesson. Until you wrap up the lesson, it is closed and reads "Practice - assigned at wrap-up. Tap to open early." Tap it to open it early. When it has items, it shows a Visible to family label.

Practice for a cancelled or missed lesson

A cancelled lesson, or one the student missed, gets no lesson note, but you can still set practice for that week. On the Lesson Worklist, such a lesson in the current week shows Add practice assignment next to Open. It opens the practice widget in a dialog. Trio makes the assignment, and carries last week's items forward, when you add the first item. Each lesson has one assignment; the button then reads Edit practice assignment. Older lessons show Practice assigned when they have one.

Adding items

Add opens five item types, each with its own default target and how often:

• The type and the linked piece are fixed after you add an item. To change them, delete the item and add a new one.
• Piece offers only the student's active repertoire. If the piece is not there yet, assign it on the student's Repertoire tab first.
• Watch a video needs a clip: a composition video clip or one you upload.

Setting a target and how often

Tap an item to open its editor:

• Title and an optional note.
• Target - Time (5 to 120 minutes), Reps (1 to 50), or None, with preset buttons and a stepper.
• How often - Daily, 3× per week, 5× per week, By next lesson, or No set days.

Drag the grip (or long-press on touch) to reorder. Click Delete in the editor, or swipe the row left on touch, to delete.

When the family sees the work

• A practice item is visible to the family as soon as you add it, even while the lesson note is a draft, and even if you never share the note. A Watch a video item with no clip stays hidden until it has a clip.
• At wrap-up, Trio carries the work forward. When the student has a previous assignment, Trio copies its items into the new week with completion cleared, and the caption reads "Carried from last week - edit freely".

How items are completed

• Tapping a checklist item on the Practice page marks it done at once, and tapping it again clears it.
• Checking items in the Log practice dialog records what the student practiced. It counts toward the automatic rule below.

Trio marks an item done automatically when logged practice covers enough different days in the current studio week (Monday to Sunday):

• Daily needs 7 days.
• 3× per week needs 3 days, and 5× per week needs 5 days.
• By next lesson needs one day.
• No set days is never automatic; it is done only by tapping.
• A Record a video item is also done when the family submits a clip for it.

Time and rep targets are a guide for one session; they do not change whether an item is done. Completion resets each week.

Reviewing the work

Open the student's profile and choose the Practice Log tab:

• Completed Assignments - a timeline of items the student finished.
• Practice videos - submitted clips with inline playback; you can leave one comment per clip (a single comment, not a thread). You see the clips of your own students, of students in your group classes, and of students you teach a lesson for. Owners and admins see every student's clips.
• Practice History - the student's logged sessions, with dates, minutes, instrument, and notes.

On the lesson page, the practice panel shows an X/7 count for each item: the number of days the student practiced it in the 7 days that end on the lesson date. The automatic done rule uses the Monday-to-Sunday week, so the two numbers can differ.
