Family Practice Tracking

The family's Practice page in the parent portal is where students and parents log practice and see progress. This article covers what families see there. For the practice work you set from the lesson page, see Practice Assignments.
Switching students
When a family has more than one student, the page title includes a student switcher. Switching students reloads the page for that child, including streaks, assignments, badges, videos, and recent sessions.
What the Practice page shows
- Streak - the current practice streak, the freezes available, and progress to the next badge.
- This week - a ring for weekly minutes and pips for the weekly days goal.
- Today's focus - today's minutes, the current piece, and this week's assignment checklist.
- Recent badges - recently earned badges, with a See all link.
- Practice videos - the student's recent practice clips.
- Practice history - a heatmap of recent practice.
- Recent sessions - the practice logs of the last 30 days.
On a computer, the Badges and Log practice buttons are at the top of the page. On a phone, the Log practice button is lower on the page, and families open their badges with See all on Recent badges. The parent portal dashboard also shows a smaller Practice card with the streak, weekly progress, and a link to the Practice page.
The weekly goal
Each student starts with a weekly goal of 5 days and 150 minutes. To change it, open the student's profile, choose the Practice Log tab, and edit the Practice Goal card. Owners, admins, and teachers can change the goal.
Streak freezes
Streak freezes protect a student's streak. Nobody spends them by hand. When a student on a streak misses a practice day and has a freeze, Trio uses one freeze overnight to cover the missed day and keep the streak going. Every student gets 2 freezes at the start of each month. Freezes that are not used expire at the end of that month.
The Streak Freezes card on the student's Practice Log tab shows how many freezes are available, where each one came from, and which missed days a freeze covered. You cannot use a freeze on a day you choose.
Logging practice
Families use Log practice to record a session. They choose the student when needed, then the date, duration, instrument, mood, and optional notes, and they can check off the assignment items they practiced.
The mood choices are Great, OK, and Struggling. Families can change the mood on recent sessions without changing the rest of the log.
Assignments
The Today's focus card shows the current piece and this week's assignment checklist, and families check off items as they practice. See Practice Assignments for how you set the work and how items complete.
Practice videos
Families can add practice clips of up to 5 minutes. Only the family, the student's teachers and the studio's owner and admins can see them. See Practice Assignments for reviewing them and leaving a comment.
Badges and reminders
Practice can earn badges, which show in Recent badges and on the Badges page. Families manage practice notifications in Notification Settings, including Badge alerts, Daily practice reminder, and Weekly digest email.
