Messaging Your Teacher & Shared Lesson Notes

Messages is for conversations with the studio and your family. The Lesson Notes tab in Resources holds the notes your teacher shares after lessons.

Messages

Messages opens on the Messages tab, your list of conversations. The Archived tab holds conversations you archived.

Each row shows the conversation's name (or the people in it), the date of the newest activity and a short preview. A dot and a bold name mark unread messages.

Who can I message?

The primary teacher of each of your children.
Studio staff who accept messages from families.
The adults and students in your family who have a Trio login.

Starting a conversation

Tap New message (the pencil).
Tap + in the To: row and choose a person. Tap + again to add more people. Tap the x on a name to remove it.
If you already have a conversation with exactly those people, its history shows below the To: row.
Type your message and tap send.

When a conversation has no name, a new message to the same people goes into it. After someone gives the conversation a name, a new message to the same people starts a new conversation.

You can also tap Message Teacher on your dashboard. It opens a new message to the teacher of your next lesson. With no upcoming lesson, it opens your conversations.

Reading and replying

Tap a conversation to open it. It opens on the newest messages; tap Load earlier messages to see older ones. Type in the reply box at the bottom and tap send. New messages show at once, with no refresh.

On a phone, tap the back arrow at the top left to go back to your conversations.

Can I send a photo or a file?

Yes. Tap + in the reply box to attach a file:

PDF, JPEG, PNG and WebP files, and MP3 and M4A audio, up to 25 MB.
Video (MP4, MOV, WebM or MPEG) and other audio, up to 100 MB.

Reactions

Press and hold a message.
Pick an emoji, or + for more.
To remove your reaction, pick the same emoji again.

On a computer, point at the message and select Add reaction, or right-click the message.

You can have one reaction on each message. Tap the reactions on a message to see who reacted. When someone reacts to your message, Trio tells you in the notification bell, and by push if you turned push on for messages.

Details, names and archive

Tap the bar at the top of a conversation to open its details. There, anyone in the conversation can give it a name, change the name or clear it.

To archive a conversation, tap Archive conversation in its details. On a computer, an archive button also shows when you point at a row in the list. To bring one back, open it from the Archived tab and tap Unarchive conversation in its details. When someone else sends a new message, an archived conversation comes back to Messages on its own.

Studio announcements are read-only. You can read them, but you cannot reply or react.

Lesson Notes

The Lesson Notes tab shows feedback from your child's lessons. Only notes your teacher completed and chose to share show here. Drafts and private notes stay with the teacher.

If you have 2 or more students, name buttons at the top show one child's notes or all of them. If there are no notes yet, Trio tells you that notes will show here after lessons.

Getting told about a new note

When your teacher shares a note, Trio tells you on the channels you turned on. The alert opens that note. It has your child's name and a link, not the note itself. You are told only once for each note.

Only parents and guardians get new-note alerts. To turn them off, tap your photo or initials, then Notification Settings, then turn off Lesson notes. It is on unless you turn it off. The notes still show on the Lesson Notes tab.
