Trio plans and pricing

Trio comes in three plans - Free, Pro, and Max. This article walks through what each plan unlocks, what it costs, and the concrete moments when stepping up from Free starts paying for itself.

The three Trio plans

  • Free - $0. Everything you need to run a small solo studio: scheduling, manual billing, the parent portal, and limited AI and SMS allowances. Capped at 10 students and a single teacher account.
  • Pro - $5/mo or $50/yr (Save 17% on annual). Unlimited students, unlimited teacher/staff seats, online payments via Stripe Connect, and a much larger AI and SMS budget. The first paid seat is included.
  • Max - $20/mo or $200/yr (Save 17% on annual). Everything in Pro, plus multi-location support and the largest AI and SMS allowances. Built for studios running more than one room or location.

Switch between monthly and annual billing on the Subscription tab - the savings line shows the dollars you keep on an annual cycle.

What each plan unlocks

  • Free - lesson scheduling, manual invoicing, the parent portal, the Ask Trio assistant (limited credits), and SMS messaging (limited).
  • Pro adds - online payments via Stripe Connect, unlimited students, the ability to invite teachers and staff, a much larger AI credit pool, and a much larger SMS allowance.
  • Max adds - multi-location support, connected AI assistants (MCP), the largest AI credit pool, and the largest SMS allowance. Pick Max when you operate out of more than one studio room or address, or when you want to connect an AI assistant to your studio.

Online payments live on Pro and Max. If you want families paying by card from the parent portal, that is the line you need to cross.

Connected AI assistants (MCP)

Connecting an AI assistant to your studio over MCP is a Max-only feature - Free and Pro studios cannot enable it. Once on Max, an owner or admin can turn on the studio MCP toggle and authorize an assistant, which can then answer questions using read-only studio data. AI credits and SMS

Every paid AI action - Ask Trio answers, AI lesson notes, and the upcoming AI library importer - draws from a single shared monthly pool of AI credits. SMS messages are a separate monthly bucket.

  • Free - 25 AI credits and 50 SMS messages per month.
  • Pro - 500 AI credits and 1,000 SMS messages per month.
  • Max - 5,000 AI credits and 10,000 SMS messages per month.

Both pools reset at the start of each billing cycle. If you bump into the Free ceiling regularly - say AI lesson notes runs out mid-week - that is the clearest practical signal to upgrade.

Teacher seats

Free is single-teacher. The owner is the one account, and inviting a teacher requires Pro or Max.

On Pro and Max, the first teacher seat is included in the base price. Additional seats are $5/mo or $50/yr each (Save 17% on annual). Seats are billed live: when you invite a teacher, the line item appears on your next invoice; when you remove one, it drops off.

So a Pro studio with the owner plus two teachers is $5 base + $5 second seat = $10/mo (or $50 + $50 = $100/yr). Same arithmetic on Max with a higher base.

When upgrading from Free pays off

Concrete triggers - if any of these are true today, the math has flipped:

  • An eleventh student is enrolling. Free caps at 10 students. Pro removes the cap entirely.
  • A family asks to pay online. Card payments require Stripe Connect, which is Pro and Max only.
  • You want to bring on a second teacher. Free is single-teacher; staff invites unlock on Pro.
  • You are hitting the 25-AI-credit ceiling. AI lesson notes plus a few Ask Trio sessions can burn through a Free month quickly. Pro is twenty times the budget.
  • You are sending more than 50 SMS messages a month. Reminders, schedule changes, and announcements add up fast on Free. Pro gives you 1,000.

If none of these are true yet, Free is genuinely fine - Trio is designed so the small-studio workflow is complete on the free plan.

How to change your plan

Open Owner Settings → Subscription. The Subscription tab shows your current plan, your billing interval, and your seat usage. Click Change Plan to pick a new tier, toggle monthly or annual billing, and confirm.

A few details to know going in:

  • Subscription changes are owner-only.
  • The first teacher seat is included on Pro and Max - you only pay the per-seat add-on starting with the second seat.
  • The monthly/annual toggle on the Change Plan page shows the savings on annual billing alongside the price.
  • You can move between Pro and Max at any time; Stripe prorates the change.
